The Confucian tradition of male ancestor worship in China further reinforced the androcentrism and male-female inequality derived from the Hindu tradition. Confucian values also engendered additional practices of honoring male Zen masters as if they were familial ancestors. Even today, gender-differentiated and segregated practices continue to be pervasive in most Asian Zen temples.
